Curriculum Vincenzo Barone was born in Ancona in November 1952 and is full professor in Physical Chemistry since November 1994. After the degree in chemistry (in 1976 cum laude under the supervision of professor G. Del Re) he kept on his scientific formation at the Universities of Marseille, Grenoble, Paris, Erlangen-Nurnberg, Montreal and Berkeley. His main research topics are related to biomolecules with special reference to their geometric and electronic structure and to their reactivity. This analysis is based on a theoretical microscopic approach, and it is devoted to the development of an integrated tool for the study of physico-chemical processes in liquid solution including a general and powerful electronic model (obtained through the development of original and effective approaches in the framework of the density functional theory), an accurate description of solute-solvent interactions (through mixed discrete-continuum models) and the inclusion of the most important effects of nuclear motions (vibrational averaging of physico-chemical observables, reaction rates). Professor V. Barone is author of more than 300 publications on international journals. He belongs to the advisorial Board of Theoretical Chemistry Accounts and to the Board of Physical Chemistry Division for the Computational Chemistry Group, Italian Society of Chemistry.
